Description

Come move and groove the Brazilian way! Capoeira combines martial arts, music, dance and acrobatics to help students gain coordination, focus, agility, flexibility, teamwork and strength. Classes for this age group incorporate music, rhythm, games, creative movement, singing in Portuguese and introduction to Capoeira movements. We will focus on developing physical and sensory awareness through movement, tumbling, and sensory activities. Covid Protocols: Classes and workshops held in all spaces at the art center and Whole World Arts utilize an HVAC system supplemented with portable HEPA filtration systems. Fresh air is introduced whenever possible. Classes are spaced appropriately to allow 3 - 6 ft. of social distancing. Acrylic barriers are utilized, as needed. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged for all adults regardless of vaccination status, and required for all youth classes. All our staff and Teaching Artists have been vaccinated. High-touch surfaces are wiped down regularly using certified cleaning agents. Hand sanitizer is available in all classrooms. Youth visual arts classes have their own sanitized art supplies to be used.

About the Teaching Artist
Levi Guerrero, also known as Cacique de Ramos, has practiced the art of Capoeira for many years and is an instructor affiliated with Grupo Senzala from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil under the guidance of Mestre Zumbi. Mr. Guerrero has been teaching Capoeira since 2006 in various locations in central and southern New Jersey. Primarily, he seeks to develop the mental and physical capabilities of young people through Capoeira while simultaneously exposing them to the cultural heritage of Africa and Brazil.
