Fridays: How Charming! An Introduction to Jewelry Making [Teens & Adults] at Whole World Arts

Learn how easy it is to create your own jewelry! Match an outfit or make a gift. You’ll learn to make charms, choosing compatible beads by color, type, and weight. Using wire and jewelry pliers, you’ll make individual bead charms, then use just two of these charms to make earrings. You can make two or more pairs at the first class. At the second class, you’ll build on your knowledge from the first one to make more charms, and you’ll have enough to make a bracelet. The final class we will make a necklace. You will learn the techniques to add them to a chain. At the end of the Workshop, you’ll have earrings, a bracelet, and a necklace, and the skills you’d need to make more!

Materials fee of $25 to be paid to the teaching artist at the start of the workshop.

Adults are now required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test taken within 2 days of the in-person event or class. Classes, workshops, and events held in all spaces at the art center and Whole World Arts utilize an HVAC system supplemented with portable HEPA filtration systems. Classes and event seating are spaced appropriately to allow 3 - 6 ft. of social distancing. Acrylic barriers are utilized, as needed. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged for all adults, and required for all youth classes. All our staff and Teaching Artists have been vaccinated. High-touch surfaces are wiped down regularly using certified cleaning agents. Hand sanitizer is available in all spaces. Youth visual arts classes have their own sanitized art supplies to be used.

About the Teaching Artist  
Artist Ruth Strohl-Palmer received a BA in fine art from Douglass College, Rutgers University. She has never stopped learning various art and craft media, taking classes such as paper making, jewelry making, paper marbling, glass lampwork bead making, and ceramics. She loved working in clay in college, and started throwing and hand building again about 8 years ago. Living a creative life, Ruth had had numerous art “careers” that include jewelry designer, graphic designer, fine artist, illustrator, art doll maker, toy designer, fiber artist, and art teacher. Her latest venture was an art and gift shop where she taught classes and sold the work of her family, friends, and herself. Her husband and sons are artists and musicians, and all of the Palmers have taught classes. The pandemic closed the shop, but now Ruth has more time to create art and jewelry, and to teach! Ruth considers herself an encourager, believing everyone has creative potential. She really loves to share what she knows.
