Sunday: Flash Fiction/NonFiction Writing Workshop on Ekphrasis [Adult]

The definition of ekphrasis is "the use of detailed description of a work of visual art as a literary device."  Writers should bring in a meaningful photo of someone they will write about in the workshop. It can be a family member, a historical person, or even a photo of themselves. This is a flash writing workshop, so writers will be creating a 500 word or less piece by the end of the workshop, which will be critiqued and shared in the class. After the workshop is over, enjoy a brief reading of some of Sung's latest work!

Covid Protocols: At this time, mask wearing is optional. If COVID cases increase at any point and we are recommended by local health organizations, we may return to mandatory mask wearing. Classes and workshops held in all spaces at the art center utilize an HVAC system supplemented with portable HEPA filtration systems. Fresh air is introduced whenever possible. Classes are spaced appropriately to allow 3 - 6 ft. of social distancing. High-touch surfaces are wiped down regularly using certified cleaning agents. Hand sanitizer is available in all classrooms. 

About the Teaching Artist
Sung J. Woo’s short stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times, PEN/Guernica, and Vox. He has written three novels, Skin Deep (2020), Love Love (2015) and Everything Asian (2009), which won the 2010 Asian Pacific American Librarians Association Literature Award.  In 2022, his Modern Love essay from The New York Times was adapted by Amazon Studios for episodic television.  A graduate of Cornell University with an MFA from New York University, he lives in Washington, New Jersey.
