Artist Statement: Morning Stroll. I painted this view of Washington Crossing State Park from the Pennsylvania side on a hot morning in early summer when visitors were sparce and geese ruled. Thanks to Bob Barrish and ""Socially Distant River Rats,"" this was my first ""en plein air"" painting in public upon the onset of COVID restrictions. As I painted the scene, noisy geese strolled along and captured my attention.
Bio: As an art teacher now retired, I have resumed my painting career with much excitement. I retired seven years ago after teaching art at Montgomery Township Schools for twenty years, assorted other public and private schools for a career spanning thirty-five years. Steering me back to the artist within, I am grateful for a fellowship with the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation as artist-educator with a grant that enabled me to participate in numerous travel excursions and mini-grants and to discover art resources and instructors in this area since I grew up in Pittsburgh, spent time in California and Lancaster (PA), and eventually settled in the Lambertville area in 1996. Exhibiting now, I have been in numerous juried shows such as Phillips' Mill, Ellarslie, D&R Greenway, New Hope Arts, West Windsor Arts and Artsbridge. I have had the honor of receiving several art awards at juried exhibitions. Since retiring, I have had two solo exhibits, one at the Present Day Club, Princeton and the other at the Bank of Princeton, Lambertville. A two-month duo show in Lambertville began early spring of 2020 but was taken down abruptly due to COVID. My undergraduate degree is in art education from Pennsylvania State University, and a master's degree is in dance from Temple. Artists Gerd Koch & Carlisle Cooper, California; Micheal Madigan & Charles Vierra, New Jersey; and Tim Hawkesworth & Lala Zeitland, Pennsylvania are my most influential teachers. www.AurellePurdySprout.com
