Sea Spirits by Meta Dunkly Arnold
13.5 in. w x 14.5 in. h x 2.5 in. d
Artist Statement: This piece contrasts the weathered aesthetic of the ornate wood carvings on boats and old houses in Maine with the sparkle of shipwreck treasure and fantasy. The surfaces are crusted with beads and shells like barnacles. The mermaid's hand barely touching the ship's sail suggests she is directing the wind or steering the ship to safety.
Bio: Meta Dunkly Arnold works primarily in assemblage and mixed media. Many of her pieces are kinetic, interactive, or narrative, inviting the viewer on a journey of discovery. Meta also teaches art to young children at Art Sparks in Hopewell and the Arts Council of Princeton.
