Artist Statement: I have passionately wanted to see the Aurora Borealis my whole life. This painting is one of a series I have done based of observatory photos of the Aurora.
Bio: Margaret Kalvar-Bushnell, b. 1957, studied Art History at Wellesley College while majoring in Economics. She studied water color painting at the State University of New York at Purchase during the summer of 1976. She pursued a career in finance after graduation, while continuing to draw and paint. During the 1990s, while raising her children, she studied with Michael Madigan and Hannah Fink at Artworks in Trenton and had works accepted at the Ellarslie Open in 1994, at TAWA at Ellarslie 1995, and at TAWA's Warehouse exhibit in 1995. In May of 1996, she had a solo show at the Plainsboro Public Library, entitled Abstraction in Action, and participated in a group show at the Twin Rivers Library in 1997.
She resumed painting studies in 2017 with Charles Viera at Princeton Arts Council and in the following years has had works accepted in many West Windsor Arts Council juried shows, including their most recent exhibition, and student shows at the Princeton Arts Council, including the Master Class show in 2021. In 2020 and 2022 her pastel submissions to the Mercer County Senior Art Show won first prize in their category. In addition, she has had works on paper accepted into both the 2020 and 2021 juried shows at Phillips Mill. She presently has 3 works accepted into and on display at the 2022 Ellarslie Open.
