Description
Reflections in an Autumn Pond by Wendy Wilson
Medium: computer printed silk
16 x 16 inches
Artist Statement: This design was inspired by the beauty of the autumn leaves and the bare trees reflected in the water! The fall brings us beauty as well as change. My art is designed on a computer. It is not AI, it is drawn by me, using a mouse or stylus and Coreldraw or Gimp software. It is printed on silk satin and silk organza. The semi-transparent organza is layered over the silk satin to give a sense of movement and dimensionality. (Please note that this is not yet framed, just stretched, but it will be framed before I bring it down)
Bio: Although I am not a young person, I am a newcomer to the world of art. I have a degree in City Planning and spent my early career as a planner. I left that field to work with computers and spent most of my career supporting users of small computers. I started dyeing silk and cotton. The creation of color is a joyful act. And each fabric is different, in the way they feel, the way they take dye or paint, the way they drape. Over the years, I have created 100s of designs on silk and cotton, using dye and silk paint. At the same time, I was doing some design work with software. It was a natural move to start printing those designs on silk and cotton. I like the precision that I can achieve with computer-based designs. It did occur to me some years ago that training in art might be advantageous and I took coursework at Raritan Valley for several semesters until family issues intervened. The faculty there were amazingly patient and encouraging. I will be continuing my studies, either on-line or in person, since there are many things I want to learn. I retired to pursue art full time. And though I am still spending much of my day at a computer, it is a now a gratifying exercise. I am a lifelong resident of NJ and now live in Franklin Park, just north of Princeton.
