Surprise in the Shadows by Donna Ruane Rogers
pastel, 20.5 x 18 inches
Artist Statement: South Jersey is home to a very large and supportive artist community including the Stan Sperlak Gallery & Sculpture Gardens located in Goshen. It is a unique NJ gem showcasing acres of beautiful natural environment, nature walks, sculptures, and artist studio which hosts painters workshops with the stunning backdrop of the marsh on the Crow Creek. It was along one of the nature walks that an abandoned boat was found partially hidden in the grass with the backdrop of the wetlands framing the scene.
Jersey Inspiration: The inspiration behind this pastel on paper painting was to share an unexpected find amid the natural environment of the New Jersey salt marshes.
