Artist Statement: I have an inexplicable attraction to trees, and I adore nature. It's no surprise that my work often brings the two together. There is so much to learn from both, and they can teach us a lot about the journey of life.
For me, art is a way to express my spirituality. I don't adhere to any particular technique. Instead, I let myself become immersed in the creative process by allowing my intuition to take over and see what comes out of it. The end product often catches me off guard. I feel that it is a beautiful way to approach art – by allowing oneself to become lost in the creative process and letting one’s intuition guide the way.
Bio:
Faith Saunders spent her childhood in Mandeville, Jamaica, before moving to the United States at the age of 20. For the last 30 years, she has called Somerset, New Jersey, her home. In 2007, Faith was coaxed into attending a social event where guests made handmade holiday cards. Little did she know, this would be a pivotal moment in her life, as it was then that she discovered a hidden talent – the artist within her.
Faith has been producing a variety of artwork since then. Though she began with handmade cards, she has since explored many creative avenues such as jewelry making and pottery.
Faith is a true believer in the power of art to bring people together. Hence, she teamed up with the Franklin Township Library to encourage community members to make cards for patients undergoing cancer treatment. This initiative was aimed at spreading positivity and hope through art.Faith is the author of two books - BREAK FREE: 52 Tips to Escape from Your Self-Imposed Prison and Journal to Wellness. She recently founded a non-profit organization called I Can Make a Difference (iCMAD). The non-profit works with single parents to help them maintain their emotional wellness. When asked to describe herself, Faith responded, "I am someone who aims to make the world a better place than when I arrived."
