Artist Statement: Ahmaud Arbery, Tyre Nichols, Sandra Bland is a triple memorial portrait of 3 victims of needless brutality. The materials used to form the sculpture are repurposed cardboard, paper, and metal armature. The surface is then painted with acrylic paint to resemble traditional bronze memorials.
Bio: Barbara Wallace is a sculptor who is known for her figurative art works and innovative use of paper mache. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Pratt Institute and Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania. Wallace is an Adjunct Professor at Passaic County Community College and Adjunct Distinguished Professor at Kean University. Recent group exhibits include Drift, Silverwood Park Gallery, Saint Anthony, MN; Artists’ Equity, Wayne Art Center, Wayne, PA; In the past year she has received the Solo Exhibit Award at the Center for Contemporary Art, Bedminster, NJ; the Creative Interpretation Award at the Belmar Arts Council, Belmar, NJ; and the Second Place award at d’Art in Norfolk, VA. Wallace is a previous Union County Honoree in the Arts for Women’s History Month, awarded by the NJ Senate and General Assembly.
