Artist Statement: Lately I’m returning to the kind of art-making I’ve always been drawn to, namely making marks on the page and seeing what happens. What do the marks say to me? How do they move me? I begin a conversation with the piece that speaks a kind of energetic truth, rather than anything logical or analytical. Each mark becomes an invitation that might lead to another gesture, another mark. This piece evolved over some years. It started as a play with collage elements and color that emerged as an imaginary highway scene. What is seen driving on the highway is often a blur of shapes and colors, natural and human-made. It changed over time and became a playful experience using collaged elements and color to convey the blur and the beauty of a road trip.
