Artist Statement: The painting is result of exploring various mark making mediums including oil sticks, wax crayon, oil paint and cold wax on panel. The work was created with the intention of creating a composition that activates the entire square. The painting is part of a series of recent work exploring movement and mark making in abstraction.
Bio:
Karen Schoenitz is painter exploring the possibilities of art making through process and experimentation. Born and raised in South Jersey, Karen received a BFA from Moore College of Art & Design in 2-D Fine Arts. She has exhibited in two-person and group shows at venues such as the Arts Council of Princeton, DC Gallery & Studio, Artworks and Powell Lane Arts. She received a Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Commission Purchase Award in 2021.
