Artist Statement: This piece was inspired by the beautiful lichen often seen on trees. I used yellow and purple to make it a more abstract interpretation.

Since it takes quite some time to complete a painting, I choose subjects that speak to me in some way. It might be the beauty of the colors, the interesting shapes or just how it makes me feel. Often it takes a little while during the process to understand why I chose a particular subject. At some point though, there's that spark of excitement that drives me forward to see where the painting will take me.
