Egyptian Tree of Life by Scott Brustein
watercolor
16 x 20 inches
Statement: This work was inspired after a trip to Egypt where I saw fabulous and intricate art done on original papyrus. The tree of life is folk art describing the life journey from youth to old age in a colorful representation of youthful birds facing forward (towards the right of the painting) to a single bird looking toward the path of death and rebirth (towards the left of the painting). I used watercolor on conventional heavy stock paper to reproduce the look of the papyrus.
Bio: As a retired orthodontist who is captivated by the splendor of nature, I discovered a passion for painting with watercolors, mixed media and pastels. My paintings have been displayed at the annual Art Walk in Highland Park, NJ, the Middlesex County Senior Citizens Art Show, and at West Windsor Arts at the Ode to New Jersey - Weird New Jersey Magazine juried art show. I recently showed my art at the Art that Tracks show at the Barron Art Center.
