Statement: One of a series of New York City pieces. Having worked in New York for many years I felt I had a good grasp of the vibrant and unique culture of the City. My daily walk to and from the train station took me past Bryant Park which had a culture of its own. The Reading Room inspired me to develop this piece.

Bio: Award winning artist Gary Fournier’s art journey began in High School where he excelled in oils, watercolor and the potter’s wheel. College art was interrupted by Vietnam and 4 years of Naval service, including 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he married, started a family, went to college, and began a very demanding 40+ year career in the environmental engineering industry working for several global engineering companies.

Gary’s art provides an opportunity to express himself. After many years in all levels of management in the engineering/business world, being able to express himself offers a relief from the confines of organizational structure and peer pressure. His work allows observation of the natural world and to experiment with new media and subjects. Landscape, seascapes, still life, animal portraits and architecture are his typical subjects. Gary prefers impressionism but usually works in realism or a combination. His body of work dates to 1965 with an art major in High School. Gary studied art while attending Empire State University, SUNY at Plattsburgh NY where his focus was art history, drawing and watercolor. Gary’s passion is motivated by a love of nature, color and composition.

Gary’s work has been juried into several area live exhibits and several remote online exhibits. He was recognized by Mercer County NJ, Senior Art Competition for two pieces in the professional oil category, one Third place and one first place.

Finally, Gary is active in several local art groups including Artsbridge, Inc., a NJ nonprofit art group, and has served as President nearly 6 years
