Description
Shiva by Medha AtreKulkarni
oil on canvas
36 x 48 inches
Year created: 2024
Description: Shiva, in a top knot and flowing black hair, sits in meditation on a rock surrounded by glowing yellow and orange lotus flowers, and soft gold light and dark waters. He holds a glowing lotus in his cupped hands. Around his neck is a pale green snake and he wears beads around his neck, upper arms, and wrists. A half-moon sits in their hair and water flows from his top knot.
Connection to the theme: Meditation promotes overall well-being in everyone. The lotus represents every peaceful enlightened soul that has risen above the darkness of hate & discrimination, to bloom and bring joy to the world. The divine light reflects & works through us to build a better community & world.
Artist Statement: I am a BFA in painting. As a naturalized citizen, I gave up my career as an animator, to take the best care of my kids, while teaching art, creating art & commissioned paintings from my home studio.
I believe art is the purest form of divine expression that comes directly from the artist's heart & soul, knowingly or unknowingly. I paint everything that touches my heart & everything that I paint comes from my heart and I love the process. It's Magic!
I try to manifest the magic of art in several mediums: prominently in watercolors, acrylics & oils.
'Art is the journey of the soul. My paintings are my worship, meditation & prayers. Through my art & art lessons over the years, I hope to add positivity to the world. I hope my art adds a smile to everyone's face & heart. Thanks for being a part of my journey.
