recycled plastic, resin, Yupo paper, markers, watercolors, acrylic paints
11.5h x 12.75w x 3d inches
Year created: 2023
Description: Layered organic forms in translucent tones of blue, green, and beige, enhanced by textured, web-like elements.
Connection to the theme: Politic, environmental issues, and racism are intricately linked in the context of water access and quality, shaping the experience of marginalized communities. Contaminated water sources disproportionately affect these communities, exposing them to health risks and undermining their quality of life.
Artist Statement: Historically, water has been the lifeblood of civilizations, fostering settlements and nurturing growth. Today, however, contaminated water sources disproportionately impact minority communities, exposing them to serious health risks and diminishing their quality of life.
My artwork is informed, impacted, and motivated by my concern about the climate crisis and my frustration seeing people deny what is happening to the only home we have.
I create my pieces as a meditation and reflection on those concerns, with the hope that they generate greater awareness of how human beings relate to the environment, its far-reaching consequences, and the choices we make in terms of representation and governance that will ensure the sustainable management and protection of this precious resource for future generations.
