Dancing With You by Pam Krimsky
acrylic on canvas
38 x 28 inches
Year created: 2020 - 2024
Description: People are celebrating outdoors in front of a large tree. A man and woman are dancing, two other couples are embracing, and a seated man is playing a wind instrument as a woman watches.
Connection to theme: This painting is about the time in most people's lives when they are enjoying themselves with other people.
Artist Statement: I enjoy painting that which I find compelling from Life, often landscapes, and plein air, and now, after many years of painting, I am usually able to feel satisfied with the work in one session. I work quickly. Occasionally, I use a photograph as my subject, if my subject cannot or will not sit long enough for me. These paintings are also done quickly.
In painting from imagination, and I love the subject matter of The Dance or The Concert, where, I am composing a number of figures, I find I need to work on these for a long time, sometimes years, although often, for many months I do not touch a particular canvas because I am not sure what changes I need to make, only that changes are necessary.
Bio: Pam enjoys working directly from Nature, (mostly landscapes), painting figures, often from imagination, and loves drawing from life.
After completing her MFA at Queens College, she taught and painted, but did not exhibit. Between 1991 and 2007, living overseas, she continued painting while teaching Art in a variety of settings, to various ages. She was one of two faculty hired to open a Fine Arts Department at a large university. There, she taught Drawing and Composition in the native Farsi.
While overseas, her painting was selected for the 1993 Juried Biennial at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran. Since returning to the Hudson Valley, USA in 2007, she has had many solo and group shows. Her works have been shown in Manhattan and
Brooklyn and in Kykuit, part of a Rockefeller Estate in Westchester. Articles about her work can be found in The Sanctuary and Living Rhinebeck.
