Description
The Tenement by Jennifer Wright
assemblage or mixed media
8.5 x 8.5 inches
Year created: 2024
Description: A painted grey wooden box inset with 9 compartments and a metal handle wrapped partly with rope, holds found vintage objects (old-style keys, a light bulb a spoon, and a pill box.) In each corner is a black and white photo portrait with one of the women in a layered necklace, a man in a high turban, a bodybuilder, and a man dressed in the Berber style. The central photograph is of a group of people with men in black hats and women in white shawls covering their heads.
Connection to the theme: This piece symbolizes the coming together of different races, nationalities, and religions uniting to create new communities where they can thrive. Unity through diversity.
Artist Statement: Assemblage and mixed media art is the latest medium I have discovered. I enjoy using found objects and creating pieces that invite the viewer to create their own storyline behind them.
Bio: Jennifer has been active in the visual arts her entire life. Exhibiting her works is a relatively new endeavor and it has been a great experience.
