Artist Statement: This lovely protea called out to me on a recent trip to Africa. With its stiff leathery petal-like leaves, the radiant center, and an explosion of stamen, it seemed to be screaming to have its photo taken. Painting it in oil to give it another chance to be noticed seemed only right.
