Journey of Dandelions by Yuka Takushima
Medium: acrylic paint and paper
Artist Statement: Japanese dandelions have a diploid genetic type, whereas Western dandelions are triploid. Western dandelions can reproduce and spread even if only a single plant takes root, as they can produce seeds on their own. In contrast, Japanese dandelions require companions nearby to produce seeds. Learning about these differences, I became fascinated by the mysteries contained within the fluffy, delicate seed heads of dandelions. Inspired by this wonder, I created my artwork.
