Artist Statement: I thoroughly enjoyed this free- flowing piece. It developed as l drew it
Bio: I am a recently retired teacher in both high schools in the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District where l taught for 29 years. Before that l taught in New York City for 7 years in private schools. In the early 90’s l worked summers at the South Street Seaport museum where l began more formally drawing, and studying. I drew from the model at the Art Students League.
My earliest memories of drawing go back to my childhood. I’ve just kind of always drawn. Once we had moved to Plainsboro and l was working in the District l found out about an artist who took on private students. I worked intensively with Joe Gyurzac for a number if years where l was able to hone skills, strategies, and develop more sophisticated strategies and skills. I worked in pastels and managed to get a few pieces into shows.
I have done cartooning as well as more formal pieces. Today as a retiree l am able to draw constantly. I work in pen, as well as pastels, and pencils and colored pencils. I tend to work somewhat smaller now 12x16’s to 9x12’s although l do have one larger piece going now.
I had a piece in last year's Members show as well as at the Art Center of Princeton where l still go to draw from the model. I try to push my boundaries and develop skills constantly.
