Tuesday is Yellow by Susan Parris
fabric and paper
14 x 11 inches
Artist Statement: Although never formally diagnosed, I may have a mild form of synesthesia, a neurological condition that causes sensory crossovers. One manifestation is that I have always "seen" colors and shapes associated with abstract nouns. For example, days of the week appear as a series of varying width rectangles of different solid colors. Always consistent over time, Tuesday is Yellow and thin, Wednesday is red and wide etc. As a child I thought this was normal but as an adult whenever I would mention it nobody had a clue what I was talking about. Except my son, who is an artist and understood immediately (but his colors are different). So I used this tidbit as an inspiration and made my parade of vivid days of the week rectangles tangible using fabrics of the appropriate colors.
Bio: Self-taught artist creating work because it brings me joy.
