Artist Statement: My work, by default, is a reflection of my personal story through mark-making, color, shape and texture. I am interested in exploring the formal elements of abstraction and the process of art making. Thrown for a Loop was created by building up and removing layers over time. Beyond the visual journey of creating a painting I leave any interpretation up to the viewer and look forward to be a part of sharing visual stories as a community.
Bio: Karen Schoenitz received a BFA from Moore College of Art & Design in 2-D Fine Arts. Her work is primarily abstract and focuses on process and exploration of material. Her work has been exhibited at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College, DC Gallery, Powell Lane Arts, Ellarslie Not-Quite-Open, Artworks, Arts Council of Princeton, West Windsor Arts and the Galleries at Moore, among others. She received a Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Commission Purchase Award in 2021.
