Artist’s Connection to Theme:  This painting shows what happens when mental health is strained or absent.

Image Description: Collage/oil combination.

Susan Winter started painting practically before she was born.  At the age of 5 her mother was finding papers and drawings all over the house. After receiving her master’s in special education, she decided she wanted to pursue painting full time.  Susan studied with Daniel Greene, Nelson Shanks, Richard McKinley at the Art Students League and PAFA, and the Pastel Society of America.  She is an exhibiting member of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Princeton Arts Council, Arts bridge, and a juried associate of the Pastel Society of America.  She freelanced for Greater Media Newspapers in Monmouth County with a series called This Old House (painting old houses with interesting stories in the newspaper) for 10 years.  She has paintings in several permanent collections including Bruce Springsteen, Centrastate Hospital, Freehold Township, and Freehold Boro Municipal Buildings, State Senator John O. Bennett, as well as in the collection of The White House, in Washington DC. She has had many one woman shows in many venues, including galleries in Alexandria Va., Farnsworth Gallery, Bordentown, Princeton Presbyterian Church, Present Day Club in Princeton, Gallery 33 in Hightstown, and the Straube Center in Pennington, NJ.  She has been included in many groups shows in the NY Metropolitan Area, in Princeton, and in Philadelphia. At present, she is looking for gallery representation.

Susan’s overall philosophy is to present the world from her personal view, to stay honest to her profession, and to grow continually as a visual artist.  Life is an extraordinary journey, and her goal is to put it on canvas or paper for the viewer to share.

Frame: Framed in wood.
