“I create handmade books, journals and boxes from acid-free and archival materials. I make paste papers and turn cotton fabric into book cloth to make my books and boxes. I sew each book by hand using exposed spine binding methods and waxed linen thread.”
Mindy Trost has always loved books - whether making books, reading books, writing in books or drawing in books. She discovered bookbinding while attending The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Mindy likes the creative side--choosing colors and patterns, feeling the textures of the papers and fabric--and the structural side--the measuring, sewing, and trimming. Bookbinding pleases both sides of Mindy’s brain equally all at once.
