Artist’s Statement: This painting is from a photo I took in Australia, at a vineyard south of Melbourne, on the Mornington Peninsula. I tried to capture the quality of light at sunset-- Australian light is like no other I have seen.
Artist’s Bio:Margaret Kalvar-Bushnell, b. 1957, studied Art History at Wellesley College while majoring in Economics. She studied water color painting at the State University of New York at Purchase during the summer of 1976. She pursued a career in finance after graduation, while continuing to draw and paint. During the 1990s, while raising her children, she studied with Michael Madigan and Hannah Fink at Artworks in Trenton. She had works accepted at the Ellarslie Open in 1994, at TAWA at Ellarslie 1995, and at TAWA's Warehouse exhibit in 1995. In May of 1996, she had a solo show at the Plainsboro Public Library, entitled Abstraction in Action, and participated in a group show at the Twin Rivers Library in 1997. She resumed painting studies in 2017 with Charles Viera at Princeton Arts Council. In the spring of 2019, she had works accepted at two West Windsor Arts Council juried shows. In September 2019, two of her paintings were shown in Charles Viera's student show of en plein air work at the Princeton Arts Council, and she participated in PAC's Members Show later that fall, from which her entry was sold. In 2020 and 2021, her pastel submissions to the Mercer County Senior Art Show won first prize and Honorable Mention in their category. Her work has been accepted in several other West Windsor Arts Council's juried shows over the past several years, including two paintings in their most recent show, Well-Being Ouselves. She has had two works on paper accepted into both the 2020 and 2021 Phillips Mill Juried Shows.
