Artist’s Statement: I have felt for a long time that maps (along with coins and paper money, among other things) are under-appreciated as works of art. This piece continues to reflect one of the themes that I like to incorporate into my New Jersey maps; The Province Line. It was being surveyed & laid out in 1686 - 1687 to resolve a boundary dispute between the governors of the provinces of East Jersey and West Jersey. The Line became a moot point in 1701 when the province was unified (as if anything in New Jersey is ever unified). The Line, however, still exists, marking portions of the borders of six counties, including Mercer. You now know what Province Line Road is named for. I've found that the diamond format helps draw attention to the map-as-art.

Artist’s Bio:John S. Rounds is a retired carpenter and lifelong resident of Mercer County. In his first job out of college, from 1976 to 1979 he worked in West Windsor for Dr. Scott Parry. In 2017, he started up MERCER ART, LLC with a view toward selling his artwork. His pieces have won awards in several juried shows, including a Best-In-Show in the 2018 Mercer County Senior Art Show and a 1st Place in the Craft Category in the 2018 New Jersey State Senior Art Show. When there is no pandemic raging, he participates as a vendor at 15-to-20 art & craft shows, festivals and fairs in any given year. He and his wife Sue live in Lawrence Township with their 6-month-old (heaven help them) Miniature Australian Shepherd.
