Homeward Bound by Margaret Simpson
Dimensions:24 x 18 x .75"
On display at: Whole World Arts
Artist’s Statement: Using a video that I shot of a gull in flight, I arranged video stills of the bird to simulate an entire flock flying into the sunset, entitling it "Homeward Bound." So this was a composition of various parts combined. The reference photo I chose had beautiful shades of gold and lavender in the sky that looked peaceful for a homeward flight. I imagined the gulls flying off satisfied, after having found their evening meal in the bay area.
Artist’s Bio:I live in Hamilton, New Jersey, and have worked in graphic design for 38 years. The details and tight deadlines in such a job are at opposite of painting for my creative fulfillment and at my own leisure, yet I enjoy both! I feel fortunate to paint and exhibit watercolors alongside the many talented artists from New Hope to Princeton, as well as in Pennsylvania and along the New Jersey shore. Exhibitions have included Artworks, Garden State and New Jersey Watercolor Societies, Ocean County Artists Guild, D&R Greenway Land Trust, Bordentown and New Jersey Historical Societies, West Windsor Arts Council, Whole World Arts, Mercer County Artists, and others. I primarily find inspiration from sun-dappled woods, wildflowers and water scenes, and I enjoy the individuality of faces for portraiture. My go-to medium is watercolors. I sometimes use pen and ink, pencil for sketching, acrylic for painting, and calligraphy. I am on the board of Garden State Watercolor Society and Friends for the Abbott Marshlands. Born into an artistic family, three generations have worked in art!
